Antonio Conte to Chelsea: Abramovich has told Blues squad he’s ‘signed Conte’, claims Italian press

Roman Abramovich has told Chelsea’ s players that Antonio Conte will be their new manager, according to reports in Italy.

Conte’s appointment has been expected after a series of talks with the Italy coach being offered a three-year contract worth £4.75million a year after tax. Corriere dello Sport reported today that Chelsea owner Abramovich gathered his players at their Cobham training ground last weekend and told them: “I’ve signed Conte.”

Meanwhile, Paris St Germain fear Blaise Matuidi could miss the second leg of their Champions League tie against Chelsea on Wednesday.

Matuidi was having tests today on a suspected hamstring injury after limping off during the 3-1 win over St Etienne in the quarter‑finals of the French Cup last night.

The France international is a key part of the PSG midfield and his absence would be a big boost for Chelsea, who are seeking to overturn a 2-1 deficit from the away leg of their last-16 tie.

PSG manager Laurent Blanc said: “I took him off as a precaution. When a player leaves the pitch with
an injury, I’m always worried.”
