DIEGO COSTA GOES BACK TO BRAZIL AFTER SPAIN SNUB

The Chelsea striker - who saw red in his last outing - was left out of Vicente del Bosque's latest squad and has spent the international break in his hometown instead

Chelsea and Spain striker Diego Costa has returned to Brazil as he gets over the disappointment of being left out of Vicente del Bosque's latest squad.

The volatile forward was dismissed in his last appearance, appearing to nibble on Gareth Barry's neck before being sent off in the FA Cup quarter-final against Everton, with reports suggesting Del Bosque has been put off the forward due to his hot- headed nature.

The veteran manager insists, however, that Costa was omitted purely because he is still carrying a knock, though injury has not stopped the Brazil-born attacker from returning to his homeland.

Costa, given time off by Blues boss Guus Hiddink, shared an Instagram selfie while posing with a large group of friends and family in Lagarto City, the Brazilian municipality in the north of the country where he was born.

Alongside the snap, he also posted a caption that translates as: "My beloved home !!!!!!!! #lagarto city"

Eagle-eyed readers might notice that the building in the background appears to be painted in the Spanish colours of yellow and red, the nation for whom Costa now plays after controversially turning his back on Brazil.

But Costa could miss out on a spot in Spain's squad should Del Bosque deem him too much of a risk, especially after replacement Aritz Aduriz netted against Italy. La Roja take on Romania in their next friendly.
